About Us

BACKGROUND

Women's Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC) is a women's rights non-governmental organization registered under the Trustees Incorporation Act (1962) in 2006 and NGO Board (2010).

WOLREC's vision is a society where women's rights are recognized, protected and fulfilled.

Its mission is to facilitate increased access to legal, socio-political and economic justice for women and girls in Malawi.

WOLREC has a Board of Trustees (4 females and 2 males) who are from different professional backgrounds. Currently, WOLREC has 30 members of staff (17 females and 13 males).

OBJECTIVES

  • To promote awareness of the legal and human rights of females with a view of curtailing gender-based violence, abuses relating to reproductive rights, cultural imbalances that disadvantage females, enhance female empowerment etc.

  • To provide legal aid and assistance to women and girls in Malawi.

  • To provide and identify economic opportunities for women for the advancement of their lives.

  • To lobby and advocate for gender equality, good governance, democracy, transparency, accountability and corruption free society.

  • To consolidate democratic and local governance values as they affect females.

  • To conduct research on matters affecting women.

WOLREC'S IMPACT DISTRICTS

Currently, WOLREC is operating in Southern Region of Malawi in the following districts;

Blantyre, Zomba, Mulanje, Nsanje, Chikwawa, and Balaka.

In Central Malawi, WOLREC is operating in Dedza, Lilongwe rural, Dowa, Ntchisi and Salima.

In the Northern region, WOLREC is operating in Rumphi and Mzimba with funding from different donor partners
